Aiden intercepted Pat at the bathroom door with his bathrobe and a bottle of Gatorade. "Pat," he said softly. "We need to... talk... or something."
Pat held up his hand, barely meeting Aiden's eyes with a glance. "Can't this just wait until I'm not hungover and vomiting?" he mumbled hoarsely, stiffly pulling the bathrobe on over his pyjama pants. "When did these goddamn bedroom lights get so bright?" He closed his eyes and felt his way over to the bed where he proceeded to crawl gingerly onto it and curl up into a ball on his side, hugging the bathrobe tightly around him.
"Pat, we need to talk about this. We're married now. You don't need to do the pushing away thing anymore," Aiden told him, following him to the bed.
"I know we're married! That's why the fucking shit hit the fan!" Pat snapped in frustration.

Pat's nursing skills actually managed to get Aiden vertical for the dinner at least. Aiden started feeling more normal in the afternoon and refused to let the dinner be called off. He needed Pat to at least know Marc and he had no idea why he had become so obsessed on the point. Pat reminded him that there would be plenty of time for him to meet Harri's boyfriend, but Aiden held firm, even if the protests were amidst waves of nausea and vomiting. Pat and Marc had now been inadvertently left in the living room together while Harri had followed Aiden into the kitchen when he came to get a drink of water. The water had been forgotten in favour of Aiden trying to peek around the corner and see into the living to make sure Marc and Pat hadn't decided they absolutely despised each other. Strangely enough, since Harri and Marc had arrived, the nausea was threatening to return after he had felt well for hours. He couldn't plead hangover this time.

When Aiden bought the house in Princeton with Pat, they made decision that he would keep his Upper East Side apartment in New York to give them somewhere to stay when they wanted to and gave Aiden a place to crash if he got tied up at work in the long hours he often had to put in. He stayed there in the couple of days after returning from Canada so he could go to the dinner at Harri's and then catch up on some work that needed to be seen to before the Easter break. Marc hadn't been sure what he was supposed to wear for something like this and ended up opting for some dark jeans and a nice blue form fitting button-up. Harri's BFF knew all about Marc and because he had actually lucked out with the anticipated Easter weekend off (all assuming nothing major broke with his case), there was no hair dye and there were no dark contacts. “Stop it,” Pat warned breathlessly, turning his head to shoot Aiden a weak glare. “I can hear you working up to an optimistic pep talk and I don’t want to hear it. I’m sore, I’m tired, I’m sweaty. As much as you’re my favourite cheerleader, darling, just no. It’s our first Valentine’s Day and I’m extremely unsexy and cranky. It’s a miracle I’m not crying right now and I’m warning you, there is a distinct chance I might vomit on you, so I just really don’t want optimism right now.” This was his fifth day of intense physiotherapy and it was one of the worst. He was gradually regaining the use of his legs, but the work he was doing to get that far was draining and exhausting. He could walk short distances now with assistance and currently that assistance was his partner, Aiden. Pat’s head was pounding from exertion and he really was everything he just listed and more. The biggest, most-hard to swallow issue was Valentine’s Day. This was their first together and this was how they were spending it… stuck in the hospital trying to keep him on his feet so he could fight through the latest MS attack. This was one of his worst ever and it was getting him down more than he could possibly explain. He was sick of hospitals and he was sick of being sick. He just wanted to finally go to their new home and just be a normal couple with Aiden. It wasn’t too much to ask, was it?
